California Adolescent Fitness and
Nutrition Program
The California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness (CANFit) Program is a
statewide, non-profit organization whose mission is to engage communities and
build their capacity to improve the nutrition and physical activity status of
California’s low-income African American, American Indian, Latino, and
Asian/Pacific Islander youth 10-14 years old.
Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion
CNPP works to improve the health and well-being of Americans by
developing and promoting dietary guidance that links scientific research to the
nutrition needs of consumers. Resources for teaching students about the food
pyramid are available on the website.
Healthier US (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services)
The President's HealthierUS Initiative uses the resources of the Federal
Government to alert Americans to the vital health benefits of simple and modest
improvements in physical activity, nutrition, and behavior.
Kids Health (Nemours Foundation)
KidsHealth has separate areas for kids,
teens, and parents
- each with its own design, age-appropriate content, and tone. There are
literally thousands of in-depth features, articles, animations, games, and
resources - all original and all developed by experts in the health of children
and teens.
Nutrition.gov (USDA's National
Agricultural Library)
Nutrition.gov serves as a gateway to reliable information on nutrition,
healthy eating, physical activity, and food safety for consumers, educators and
health professionals.
School Health
Guidelines (National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion)
These guidelines identify strategies most likely to be effective in
promoting lifelong healthy eating among young people.

This is an initiative of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to support the Child Nutrition Programs.
Action for
Healthy Kids
Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is a nationwide initiative dedicated to
improving the health and educational performance of children through better
nutrition and physical activity in schools.
American Alliance for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)
AAHPERD is the largest organization of professionals supporting and
assisting those involved in physical education, leisure, fitness, dance, health
promotion, and education and all specialties related to achieving a healthy
lifestyle.
California Physical Education-Health
Project
The California Physical Education-Health Project provides teachers and other
professionals opportunities to create a deeper understanding of the two
disciplines on which these subjects are based. Through readings, discussions,
and reflections, CPE-HP participants will examine the commonalties and
distinctions of the two subjects, ultimately to sharpen presentation of content
to increase the impact on instruction for students.
California Physical Fitness Test
The purpose of this site is to provide aggregate PFT results for each
school, school district, and county, as well as the state; and to provide
background information on the California Physical Fitness Test (PFT).

This organization, established by C. Everett Koop, former Surgeon General of
the U.S. focuses on decreasing obesity, stressing simple changes in diet, and
promoting healthy exercise habits.
