Parents who want to monitor their child's food choices might find it
challenging to extend their influence inside school walls. But some new systems
make it easier for parents to help in the battle between nutritious fare and
junk food.
For example, online parental checkup systems allow parents whose children
attend participating districts to have a say in what their kids buy at the
school cafeteria. They can prepay for the meal, and also track their child's
purchases.
Two such systems are MealpayPlus.com and ParentOnline.net.
Meanwhile, a Texas school district has developed its own program to help parents and students learn about the foods offered in its schools.
It's called a "virtual cafeteria." More information on the school's efforts can be found at MSNBC.com, along with some links to other nutrition issues.

ffl News and Events

The fit for learning (ffl) Program received a generous donation in the
amount of $25,000 from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, presented
during the Santa Clara County Board of Education meeting on July 21, 2011. These monies
were raised via the King of the Mountain Cycling event, sponsored by the Silicon
Valley Leadership group on May 18, 2011.
The Silicon Valley Leadership Group works to promote a high quality of life for all
populations within Silicon Valley, by organizing senior managers and principal officers
of member companies with various local, state, and federal government leaders to impact
public policy and practice issues related to community health and wellness. The funds
will allow the ffl Program to continue to provide valuable health and nutrition education
and services to children across Santa Clara County. The check was presented by
Mr. Carl Guardino, President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, to
Santa Clara County Board President, Mr. Joseph DiSalvo.
Thank you!!
